Lydgate J & I School is a Community School

The School Standards and Framework Act 1998 sets an upper limit on infant class sizes of 30 pupils. It applies to all Key Stage 1 children (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2), in infant schools, infant departments and first schools. This legislation also means that the guarantee that all in area children and out of area siblings can gain places at a school above the admission limit may no longer apply.

Priorities for Key Stage 1

We offer places in community and controlled schools to children in the following order of priority:

1. children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs which names the school:

2. children living in the school's priority admission area who have a brother or sister attending from the same address at the date of admission:

3. other children living in the school's priority admission area:

4. children who live outside the priority area who have an older brother or sister attending from the same address at the time of admission:

5. children who live outside the priority area.

Priorities for Key Stage 2

We offer places in community and controlled schools to children in the following order of priority:

1. Children who live in the school's priority admission area:

2. Children who live outside the priority area who have an older brother or sister already attending from the same address at the time of admission:

3. Children who live outside the priority admission area.
Please note
a) 'Live' refers to the child's permanent home at the date of admission.
b) If within any of the priorities mentioned above there are more applicants than remaining places, admissions will be offered to the children living nearer to the school, measured in a straight line. (For Key Stage 2 admissions, this only applies to criterion 3).
c) A priority admission area means a geographical area approved by Kirklees (see Map Supplement available from Kirklees Education Service). Parents wishing to request admission should either telephone the school or make an appointment to call in and see Miss. Boothroyd or Mrs. Stone, the school secretary.

Transfer to Secondary Education at 11 Years

Parents will be sent a transfer form normally during the Autumn Term of their child's final year. This will contain an offer of a secondary school place at either Batley High School for Boys or Howden Clough High School, for those children who live within the school's priority admission area. Children from outside the area will be offered a place at the high school which serves their home address. Parents are asked to either accept the place offered or state their preference for another school. We are pleased to give advice on any matter concerning transfer.
