 Our Eid Celebrations

During the week of Monday 10th. January Mr. Anand and Mrs. Strickson visited the school and engaged the children in a number of activities which ended with a whole school assembly on the Friday afternoon and a performance on the Sunday at the Bagshaw Museum as part of "When the Moon is New" - Eid-Ul-Fitr Celebrations.

Tile Making

The children had great fun rolling out the clay into tile shapes. They designed moon and star shapes to merge on top of the tile and also etched words into the tile. The tile was then fired in the school kiln with fingers crossed.

Later in the week the tiles were painted using suitable colour tones and then glazed with a varnish. About sixty tiles were completed and displayed at the Bagshaw Museum and later in the month at Dewsbury Town Hall.

Eid Cards

The children also spent some time making their own Eid cards. An assortment of materials were used in the making process. Again, the Moon and Stars were central to the design of the cards.

The children also practised calligraphy for authentic greetings and wrote their own greetings inside. These too were displayed at the Bagshaw Museum and at Dewsbury Town Hall.

The Performance

The children wrote poems about the importance of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. They used five, six or eight pointed stars to symbolise each part of the poem.

Groups of children used mime to act out words or phrases which used the words moon or stars. This particular picture captures part of the mime for HONEYMOON. Live Traditional Muslim music helped each presentation move on from one group to another.
