Lydgate Junior and Infant School is situated at the summit of Soothill Lane and overlooks the towns of Batley, Dewsbury, Wakefield and Leeds. There are panoramic views across the Yorkshire Pennines.

The school has 252 children aged between 4 and 11 years. It was opened in 1969 and replaced the original school at Gregory Street.
In 1998 a new extension, housing six classrooms, a shared area and a staffroom, was completed. This accommodates the Key Stage 1 department.
