Questionnaire

Thank you for returning your questionnaires to school.  106 were returned in all and these are now being analysed. I will let you know the outcomes of this after half term. The children have also completed a detailed questionnaire.

The prize draw was won by Hamzah Taram.

Parents Evenings

Parents evening will be held on Monday 13th March from 3.45 – 6pm and Tuesday 14th March from  6 – 7.30pm. You will be sent a form on which you can indicate any particular areas of concern you wish to discuss at your appointment. There will also be an opportunity to look at your child’s work before your appointment. I hope these new arrangements are helpful to you.

Parents

The ‘Helping in Schools’ course will be running at Lydgate after Easter.  This course is run by the WEA and has been very popular in other schools.
Please look out for the posters.
Thank you very much to the parents who came along and helped to paint our dining room and kitchen area as part of our drive to improve the school environment. It looks great!

Year 6 Parents

If you haven’t yet registered for the text message service regarding revision and SATs please do so. Messages will start after half term.

Holidays in term time

There are an increasing number of children missing school due to family holidays being taken in term time. Since September,  25 children have been on holiday when they should have been in school. Please can I remind you of the following:

  • The law states that parents do not have the right to take their child out of school for holidays during term time.

  • In exceptional circumstances, Headteachers can allow parents to take their child out of class for up to 10 days in a school year.

Headteachers in the Batley schools are currently agreeing on a policy which will be consistently applied in our area. Parents who take their children out of school without permission may be issued with a fixed penalty notice which is a fine of £50 per adult, per child. Taking children out of school harms their education.

No holidays should be taken in May as this is when school assessments take place.

Parent information days

From the feedback you have given us, it is apparent that you would like to know more about what is taught in school. We have planned 2 days when you are invited to come along and find out more about the teaching of literacy and numeracy in school.

Wednesday 1st March will be the literacy day when there will be 3 information sessions; 9.15 – 10.30, 2.15 – 3.30 and 3.45 – 5pm. During these times you will be able to watch the children demonstrating how they learn their spellings, how we teach reading, how you can help with writing and much more! Mrs Weekes will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Thursday 9th  March  will be the numeracy day. The session times will be the same and you will be able to see some children demonstrating how they multiply, add, subtract and divide in each year group. There will be samples of SATs papers for you to have a look at and Miss Lister will be available to answer any of your questions.

I do hope you will come to these information days and find out more about school and how you can help your child.

Book Fair

The book fair will be in school during the week beginning 27th February. You will be able to buy books from 3.30 – 4.15pm and all day on Wednesday 1st March.

World Book Day will be on Thursday 2nd March. Details of school activities will be out after half term.

I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday. See you on Monday 20th February!
