Summer Fair

Our summer fair will be held on Saturday 1st July from 2 – 4pm.
If you are able to help us by running a stall, please let us know as soon as possible. This is a major fundraising event at school and all money raised is used to support your children at school

Water Coolers

We will be having 2 water coolers fitted in school after the holiday. This means that the children will be able to access cold water during the day. Each child in school needs to have a water bottle, clearly labelled with their name, out of which they can drink.

Music Festival

The school choir will be taking part in the Kirklees Music Festival this year. They will sing at Huddersfield Town Hall on the evening of June 14th. We wish them well.

World Cup Fever

The world cup will soon be underway and we have some activities planned at school to support this. We will also be taking part in the Batley School’s World Cup at the High School on June 16th with 2 teams, one from KS1 and one from KS2.

Car Kit Challenge

A team of children from Year 6 will be taking part in the Kirklees Car Kit Challenge with Mrs Carradice on 27th June.

Year 6 Business Project

I have set the Year 6 children a business challenge. I have given them £100 and set them the challenge to see how much money they can make from this. Any profit will be given to a charity of their choice. They will be supported by students from Batley Business & Enterprise College.  The children will be encouraged to work in 3 teams to come up with ways of making money. Anything they make to sell will be sold at the Summer Fair in July.

Swimming Gala

The inter-schools swimming gala will take place at Spenborough Baths on June 28th.  More details will be available nearer the time.

KS2 Production

The children in KS2 will be putting on an end of term production during the week beginning 10th July. It is called ‘The Peace Child’ and we have already started learning the songs. Tickets will be on sale in July.

Diary Dates

19th June – Year 1 / 2 visit to Cliffe House
7th July – Reception visit to Kirklees light railway
13th  July – KS1 Sports afternoon
14th July – KS2 Sports afternoon
17th July – Open Evening
More details about these events will be sent out after the holiday.
Other class visits are currently being organised.

Deputy Head

Our Deputy Head candidates were interviewed by the school council before their formal interview with the Governors. Miss M. Bellanfante has been appointed as our new Deputy Headteacher. She is currently working at Leeside School and will start work here in September. She is an excellent teacher and will be teaching in upper KS2. We look forward to welcoming her to our staff team.

Communication

Just a reminder… if you have a concern regarding your child, the first point of contact should be with the class teacher. If you are still not happy, then please contact Mrs Weekes or Mrs Nicholson..

School Attendance

Every school day matters. As you know we are working hard to improve our attendance at Lydgate. A penalty notice has already been issued to one of our families. Please ensure your child attends school every day and arrives on time.

Lost Property

We have a large amount of lost property at school. If your child has lost something, please come and have a look in our lost property box.

Celebration assembly will be on Friday at 2.45pm.

Have a happy holiday and see you back here on Tuesday June 6th.

Mrs J Hopwood
Headteacher
